The Wickedness of an Uncontrolled Tongue

Yesterday, I read from James 3 about how wicked our tongue can be if we don't properly control it. Verses 5 & 6 speak of how small our tongue is and yet it can be one of our most destructive weapons. "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." We need to watch the way that we talk. Sad to say, many of us Christians tend to automatically blow up with our mouth if something does not go our way. Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips." In this verse we see David asking the Lord to set a watch and guard his mouth.
This is something that I struggle with also and need to continually ask God to help me guard the way that I speak. If you find yourself constantly battling your tongue, ask the Lord to help keep you from griping, complaining, gossiping, etc. In Ephesians 4:29 we read, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Make a commitment in your heart that with God's help, your speech will edify the believers and bring honour and glory to God.

You are absolutely right about the way that we use our tongue. We really ought to be more careful about what we say. Great post!
