I Kings 21:1-4 "And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee. And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread."
The background of our text displays the dreadful apostasy of Israel during the days of King Ahab. Ahab and his wife, Jezebel, were the most wicked pair of "leaders" to ever sit on Israel's throne! (I Kings 16:30 - 33) The record of their evil ways teaches us that sin does NOT satisfy!
*Ahab Loved:
1. The Position of Leader.
2. The Prosperity of the Land.
3. The Pleasures of Life.
*Ahab Lacked:
1. The Peace with the LORD!
Our text records the attempt of Ahab to buy the beautiful vineyard of his neighbor, Naboth. However, Naboth loved this vineyard and refused to sell it. Naboth would have rather displeased the king than to offend his God! (Acts 5:29) Greedy Jezebel had Naboth slandered and stoned so that Ahab could possess his vineyard. Naboth's strong conviction brought forth severe consequences!
The Church is in desperate need of some Christians with CONVICTION! Many have sold out to the world and the devil. May GOD give us the courage to stand and say that we are NOT FOR SALE!
I. The WORD of GOD is Not for Sale!
The precious WORD of GOD is being sold out for:
A. Profit! (Proverbs 23:23)
B. Popularity! (John 12:43)
C. Philosophy! (Colossians 2:8)
It is a sad day in America when one cannot find a "fundamental" college that has not sold out the WORD of GOD! If their Final Authority is not the Holy Scriptures then it must become man's philosophies and preferences. There are very few "Naboths" around who refuse to sell the blessed old King James Bible.
If a man offered me $10,000 dollars to trade my AV 1611 for his RV or NIV, then I would proudly say to him, NOT FOR SALE! (Revelation 22:18 - 19)
II. The WORSHIP of GOD is Not for Sale!
True Worship of GOD has been sold out to:
A. Entertainment! (Exodus 32:6)
B. Exaltation of Men! (I Corinthians 3:4)
C. Emotionalism! (Colossians 3:16)
III. The WITNESS for GOD is Not for Sale!
A. Our LIFE BELONGS to HIM! (I Corinthians 6:20)
This heart belongs to JESUS, NOT FOR SALE!
B. Our LIPS should BRAG on HIM! (Hebrews 13:15)
C. Our LOVE BESTOWED on HIM! (Matthew 22:37)
If you sell out:
1. What will Happen to the CROWDS? (The Lost)
2. What will Happen to the CHURCH? (The Loved)
3. What will Happen to the CHILDREN? (The Little Ones)
