Preach the Word!

Second Timothy 4:2 tells us to “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season…”
What word is it that we are to preach? It would be the Word referred to in the previous verses. The Word given by inspiration of God and profitable. How do you read this verse? Is it like this:
…and is profitable for DOCTRINE, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
or like this:
…and is profitable for doctrine, for REPROOF, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
how about like this:
…and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for CORRECTION, for instruction in righteousness.
maybe this way:
…and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for INSTRUCTION in righteousness.
I think I’ve heard preaching of each of these kinds. But my contention is that all preaching should have all of these in it. Not just teaching, or just reproving, or just correcting, or just telling how to. Real preaching or real pastoring has a balance of all of these. Don’t call yourself a preacher of the word if you can’t or don’t do all of these.
Preach the Word.

Hello good Reporters.
Do you remember Glenys Hicks?
She is a the lady in Australia where I first saw your blog.
She has become ill and I wonder if you can pray for her.
The only way I can see to give you the information is to copy and paste her email letter here for you to read and I know because you approve a comment before you publish it, that it will be safe to give you the information.

Dear Terry.
I have just got back from the hospital. It was an ordeal that took 7 hours, They made me do the stress test by treadmill and it nearly literally killed me! I got 90% through when the chest pain was unbearable. My BP shot through the roof and they pulled the plug. They had to give me oxygen and something under the tongue. I was vomiting! The pain was incredible! It wakes me up about 4 times a night! When the heart calmed down a bit, I asked the doctor if I was going to live! He said the test was abnormal and he didn't like what he was seeing! So after another nuclear scanning they told me that I have a blocked main artery and possibly others. I must start on aspirin immediately and use the nitroglycerin spray under my tongue when I have pain. If that doesn't fix it in 30 minutes, I have to ring an ambulance. I am to see the cardiologist again on Tuesday for an appt for an angiogram. Depending on what they find, I will have a stent or bypass surgery. I have to stay home and rest- no walking or driving. I jokingly said it made it sound like I was going to drop dead. He didn't smile but said well it is serious! I would be a liar to say I am not scared! Please pray for me.

That's all for now,

I will update when I can.

Love,

Glenys
