"When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." Proverbs 16:7
How can this be done? I am amazed at the number of times we read in the Bible about pleasing God. I have selected six instances where we are exhorted to "please God."
I. Preach the Gospel - "For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." I Corinthians 1:21
II. Have Faith in God - "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Hebrews 11:6
III. Preach the Cross - "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand." Isaiah 53:10
IV. Live in the Spirit - "So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8:8
V. Believe on the Name of Jesus Christ - "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment." 1 John 3:22,23
VI. Love One Another - "And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment." 1 John 3:23
May it be our holy resolve to live so as to please God. The command carries with it a very precious promise worthy of our claiming. Put from your life today any thing or any attitude which clearly displeases God. Be able to say with Jesus, "I do always those things that please him."
