The Wonder Of It All

Last night, Pastor preached from Numbers 21:4-8. "And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live." He talked about how the children of Israel lost "the wonder of it all". He compared the Israelites to Christians today. We forget about where Jesus brought us from. We forget about the miracles He did for us. We forget about what all He has given us. As soon as we lose the wonder of it all, that is when we:

1. Start taking things for granted -
We'll go around serving God during the good times, but do we really serve Him during the bad times? As soon as different trials come into our lives, we seem to lose sight of God and try to figure things out on our own.
2. Quit giving thanks -
Like I mentioned earlier, we forget about where He brought us from. We forget about the blessings He gives us each day. Let's not forget to thank Him each and every day.

Hey, God never said the way would be easy. What we need to do is just serve Him. Look back to where you were when you found the way. Look at how God cleaned you up from the mess and sin you were in. (Psalm 40:1-3, "I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.") Thank Him for saving your soul so that you don't have to go to Hell. Let's also remember where the way is taking you. Thank God you're on your way to Heaven if you've asked Jesus to save you. And then, let's remember Who is the Way. (John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

I want to challenge each of you, with God's help, to never lose sight of the "wonder of it all" because Jesus truly is The Wonder of it All!
